Sending flowers to someone with allergies or a sensitivity to scent? Then it's a good idea to choose flowers with little scent and pollen.
Ask the recipient first
Allergies vary a great deal from person to person, both in what triggers them and how severe the symptoms are. This list is a guide, not a guarantee.
If you know the recipient is sensitive, the best thing is to ask what they can tolerate – or to choose a different gift.
Flowers with little scent and pollen
- Orchid (phalaenopsis)
- Modern unscented roses
- Snapdragon
- Lisianthus
- Veronica
- Bellflowers
- Gentian
- Scabiosa
- Asparagus fern
Flowers to avoid
Hyacinth, gerbera, chrysanthemum, lily of the valley, mimosa, oxeye daisy, marigold and birch twigs have a strong scent or a lot of pollen.
Potted plants
Potted plants can cause problems too. Among the more allergy-friendly ones are moth orchid, ferns, spider plant, date palm and china doll plant.
